The Board is supported by a Secretariat provided by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

While the Secretariat provides administrative support to the Board, the policy function resides with the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs under Minister Eamon O' Cuív T.D.
