Priority Areas for Funding

Having regard to its statutory remit, the Board has decided that disbursements from the Fund should concentrate on projects or programmes designed to assist any of the following three broad categories of persons:

  • Those affected by economic and social disadvantage
  • Those affected by educational disadvantage
  • Persons with a disability

A target of 40% of total annual funding will be allocated to the area of economic and social disadvantage and at least 25% for each of the other two categories of educational disadvantage and persons with a disability.

These priority areas will be respectively administered by the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs, the Department of Education and Skills and the Department of Health and Children.

Dormant Account funding schemes are administered by Pobal, an independent not-for-profit company with charitable status that manages programmes on behalf of the Irish Government and E.U.  Further information in relation to these measures is made available at www.pobal.ie. Some Dormant Accounts Schemes in relation to educational disadvantage are administered directly by Department of Education and Skills.
